Chess2Inspire Lessons
Sign-up Required

Join this chess course for beginners hosted by Richmond Public Library in collaboration with the Chess2Inspire Association. No prior experience needed. The Beginner’s Chess Course consists of eight lessons that will introduce kids to the proper rules of chess and basic playing strategy. For kids age 5 and up.

Reading Buddies

A reading program intended to stimulate your child's love of reading. Children in grades 1 - 3 are matched with a high school mentor for weekly reading sessions. Each session runs for 7 weeks.

Le Club Francais
Sign-up Required

A reading program in which children in early French Immersion are paired with a French-speaking high school student mentor for weekly reading sessions in French.

Learning Together
Sign-up Required

In this 8-week program, parents with their child ages 3-5 will learn how to support their child’s learning in preparation for kindergarten. Learn how to help your child develop a love of reading and acquire literacy skills using the alphabet, numbers, stories and play. Parents will also learn communication skills and practice activities with their child that they can continue at home.

Each session runs for 8 weeks.

Writing Club

Do you love to write? Join our Kids’ Writing Club!

Activities and games each week feature a different writing style, from biography to poetry and much more. Presented in partnership with Richmond Youth Services Agency.

Each session runs for 8 weeks. For kids in grades 4-7.

Read to a Dog
Sign-up Required

Children ages 7 - 12 are paired with a teen buddy to practice their reading, including reading aloud to a trained therapy dog and doing fun literacy activities. This program has been designed to benefit struggling readers and provide a positive, non-judgmental environment to encourage good reading habits.
