Linda Perron Ukulele Lending Library

Learn How to play the ukulele with Richmond Public Library

Any adult or teen with a RPL library card may borrow a ukulele kit. You can borrow a ukulele kit for 3 weeks and renew it twice as long as there are no holds on the item. All branches have ukuleles kits available for check out and reservation. Please return the kit to the branch that you borrowed from.

Each Ukulele Kit contains:

Ukulele Fun Facts:

  • The smallest ukulele is the soprano ukulele. It has a bright and jingly sound that many people associate with the ukulele.
  • The concert ukulele has a bit of a fuller sound because of its larger body. As a mid-sized instrument, it can be played by people of various ages and accommodates a range of hand sizes.
  • The tenor ukulele is the largest of the three available and has the deepest tone and volume because of its increased body size. The longer fretboard also provides more space for larger hands.

The Linda Perron Ukulele Lending Library was created in memory of a Richmond resident who was well-known for her passion for music-making, her commitment to family and friends, and her connection to volunteerism. It was initiated by a team of ukulele-loving older adults in Richmond who enjoy the many benefits of music and want to create new opportunities to share this with others.

“With the passing of our beloved friend Linda, we wanted to contribute to a legacy project that would celebrate Linda’s playful presence and her commitment to inspire others on their musical journey.”

Richmond Public Library would like to thank the community team for initiating the project and partnering with us. Thank you to all of our generous donors and to Tom Lee Music for supplying the instruments and accessories.
